EVENT DETAILS
Alfie Kohn presents "Pushed Too Hard: Parenting and Teaching in an Achievement-Crazy Culture," a program for parents and educators, Saturday, January 5 at the Thomas Jefferson Community Theater in Arlington.
Kohn invites us to rethink basic assumptions about competition, school achievement, and the relationship between how we're raising our kids and how we hope they'll turn out.
This special event commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the Montessori School of Northern Virginia and the 40th Anniversary of the Montessori of McLean. Meet the speaker opportunity and light refreshments will follow the program.
Alfie Kohn is the author of twelve books, including PUNISHED BY REWARDS,THE SCHOOLS OUR CHILDREN DESERVE, UNCONDITIONAL PARENTING,THE HOMEWORK MYTH, and, most recently, FEEL-BAD EDUCATION. He has been described by Time magazine as “perhaps the country’s most outspoken critic of education’s fixation on grades [and] test scores.” Kohn lives (actually) in the Boston area and (virtually) at www.alfiekohn.org.
Online registration has closed as of midnight on 1/4/13. Tickets will be available for sale at the door--CASH or CHECK ONLY.
